About Sarah Young

Beauty is essential

From the awe inspiring vistas of nature to a mesmerizing facial expression to the odd bug crawling up a tree trunk, the beauty all around us inspires me to capture something of that beauty in my art. Beauty is essential to life, affecting us all not just emotionally, but on a physiological level; and I feel grateful to be able to add to the beauty in our lives in my own small way.

My adventurous nature means that I love to go to new places and incorporate what I experience into my art. So most of my paintings will be about the less traveled places - that waterfall you have to hike to, that private nook in a popular garden, the lovely corner on a busy street that you may not have noticed, or the way the light falls across your neighbor's white picket fence. The beauty is there - my job is to slow down, notice it, capture it, and bring it into your home.

My Journey

I am a self-taught artist who has studied with prestigious artists throughout my journey. I'm also a self-professed art video addict. I paint mainly with oils; and my subjects are primarily the outdoors and people, with some still life. My style hovers around impressionism, straying into abstract or realism from time to time. I painted part time for over twenty years and went full time as an artist in 2021. Art is very challenging because the artist must juggle so many variables all at once - composition, color, value, etc. - and I love a challenge! I find great joy in creating art and in connecting with likeminded individuals who enjoy art.

Beauty imprints a distinctive harmonious and life-enhancing neurological signature on our human biology…That point of interaction, between the beholder and the beheld, has a measurable impact on our body, mind, and greater well-being.
